Hey, how's everyone doing at the moment??

I'm still on holidays... Very excited because it's exactly 7 days until I find out if I got accepted to a university. I've applied at 4 different universities, and I really hope I get into Sydney (which is the top in my state and 2nd in my Aus). But I have a feeling I won't make it in. My average ranking score is 89.6 (out of 100) and the cut-off mark for my course at Sydney is 98.55. Even if my score is scaled up and plus bonus points, I doubt I'd make it. I'd be happy with the other preferences anyway :)

I hope 2010 will be an awesome year for everyone!

So, how's everyone else going with school/college/work?

Good luck on your upcoming exams! I have holidays til march. The weather in Aus is quite bad at the moment, either really really hot or raining and cloudy. I just laze around at home doing nothing!

how's everyone doing? late congrats to anthony for getting accepted to the universities you wanted. i wont start applying for college until november... dun dun. i want to get into John Hopkins University which is the top med school in the US.. but HAHAHA i know i definately wont make it cause you have to be like a perfect student with perfect score to get in.. and plus if i go there i will have to move out of state and live near the school and pay for housing cause the school is like on the other end of the US (im west cost and the school is east coast). My second choice would be UCLA which is third rank in US for med but my SAT score isnt that high... and the SAT is like a test where if you want to go to universities you got to take it and it mostly tests your ability to take a test... teacher say the test is bogus and that it doesnt really test your knowledge just how well you can work under pressure... the most you can get is 2400 and to get into UCLA you have to get at least 2000 with a good grade (GPA) and like i took the SAT once and i got 1700 ): im retaking it this saturday (glup!) and hopefully i can get a 1900 then i will be able to make it into UCI which is a decent university with a lot of asians attending and its near home so i dont have to move out ad live on my own. & plus its only the first four year of college so im just going to attend a decent college and work hard and get into a good med school (:

anyways enough about me. how's everyone?! i have testing straight for three weeks so i wont be coming back for a while ): i need to pull everything together before summer so i can get a 4.0 gpa. wish me luck.

ello(: so i took my test today and like everything was timed. theres like 10 portion of the test

1 essay - 25 minutes
3 math - 25 minutes
3 reading/grammer (english stuff)- 25 minutes
1 math - 20 minutes
1 english- 20 minutes
1 vocabulary/ sentence correction- 10 minutes

so overall my test lasted from 8ish till 1 ): & i didnt finish any of the section! im a horrible timed test test taker. i didnt even finish my essay. i had like three sentences left ): for the test if you skip question you get 0 points. if you get it correct you get 1 point. if you pick and answer and get it wrong you loose 1/4 of a point. at the end they multiply your score by i unno how many.

Theres total of three section: essay- two people would read your essay and each would give you a score from 1-6 & you add both score and the highest you can get is a 12 (6+6). Then theres the math section: the highest you can get is 800 and Critical Reading (read stories and answers question + vocabulary skill) the highest is 800 and writing skills (vocabulary + sentence correction) the highest is 800. they would take each score from each section and it would be out of 2400. if you get a 2400 you're a genius! i took it the first time last december and i got a 1600 ): which is consider good but in the competitive world today its like basic or maybe bellow. So i hope today i score at least a 1900 (hoping for 2000 for my med school... but haha its prtty hard).

that test is call the scary SAT! after this i gotta take two more test call the SAT subject test where i pick two subject that i like or am good at and take a test on it. i think imma take a math and history one.

college here in the US is really hard ): and super competitive so everything you do has to be like best of best. they look at your grades, SAT score, community services, sports.

i dont play any sport so i have to make all my other factors best so it can make up for my lack of athleticness haha.

im just curious, do you guys have to take tests like SAT & do you guys use GPA over where you live?

They look at your community services?? I don't do any of that!

Well in Australia our last year of schooling is called year 12. You need to do 12 units of work (so about 6 different subjects = 2 units each).

At the end of the year, after all the assignments and exams for each subject, you will receive a score called ATAR (highest score is 99.55 and the lowest is usually 50 something unless you did really bad and you won't receive a score).

The ATAR is based on your scaling of all your marks for each subject. So if you do a lot of harder subjects, your ATAR will go up higher than someone who has the same marks as you, but does all the easy subjects!

The ATAR is used by universities to select the best students :) I got around 95 last year!
